Music Technology focuses on recording techniques together with creative arranging and composing, making use of computer software. You should have a strong interest in 20th-century popular music and an aptitude for both music and IT. Some experience with sequencing software and recording technology is highly desirable. It is useful to have a GCSE or BTEC Music or IT qualification, but neither of these is essential. An appreciation of traditional music theory is also desirable, though also not essential as students without experience will have a crash course. Music Technology involves a large volume of practical coursework, encouraging you to cultivate many skills. You'll have opportunities to sequence MIDI and audio, record live instruments, and produce CDs.

You will also need a recent IELTS Certificate with a minimum IELTS level of 5.5 - 6.0 to begin the A-level and International Baccalaureate courses

Your AS qualification consists of two units: 'Music Technology Portfolio 1' and 'Listening and Analysing'. For the first unit you will cover both sequencing and recording, submitting a total of three coursework recordings on CD. For the second (A2) year, you will take two further units. In the first you will develop the practical aspects of MIDI sequencing and recording studied for AS and create your own compositions using music technology.
